Supporting patients through lockdown

An eye clinic professional

Deafblind UK supports patients through lockdown with support from the National Lottery Community Fund.

National charity, Deafblind UK is offering its support to all eye clinic patients who have missed appointments due to Covid-19.

Simone Moore from Deafblind UK said: “We know that thousands of appointments have been missed due to Covid-19 restrictions and practitioners’ capacity. This will no doubt have a devastating affect on patients, who will be worried and anxious, not knowing when they will be able to see their specialist again.

“Our wellbeing and emotional support service is free and available to anyone who needs it. Our trained and experienced staff can provide emotional support and practical advice. We can’t make Covid go away, but we can give you some comfort and support if you’re feeling anxious.”

Deafblind UK has recently received funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to offer their support to NHS eye clinic professionals. Marketing Manager, Naomi Dainty said: “We will be producing a range of materials to support clinicians in identifying patients who have dual sensory loss and enabling them to quickly and easily signpost them to our emotional support services.”

Deafblind UK has recently launched a new six-week support service that gives patients an opportunity to offload and talk through feelings, thoughts and emotions. Similar to a counselling service, it offers the space, safety and warmth to talk openly and honestly with their trained advisors who all have the relevant counselling skills to support those who need it.

This project has been made possible with support from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund and we would like to thank lottery players and the Government for making this possible.
