A little walk through our history, starting with where it all began 96 years ago... 1928 - The National Deafblind Helpers League worked with people who were deafblind, encouraging confidence and providing practical help. 1929 - The first ever Braille magazine was launched, 'Braille Rainbow', now called Open Hand and still produced by Deafblind UK. 1963 - With great campaigning and fundraising, the National Deafblind Helpers League built a complex of 12 flats, for people who were deafblind to live independently, and the only one of its kind in the UK! 2024 - Rainbow Court was extended with two bungalows developed from old office space, providing homes to people who are deafblind with additional care needs - also a first! In between this time with support, awareness, fundraising, education, research and great people who care about making a difference, we can support more people than ever. Recent statistics found over 450,000 people in the UK are deafblind, with the number predicted to grow. We are here for those people, and it is through support like yours which allows us to be there when it can feel like someone's world gets turned upside down. 💚 To learn more visit our website deafblind.org.uk or for support call us for free on 0800 132320. #DeafblindAwareness #DeafblindUK

We are so grateful to Scottish Power for being selected as one of the UK charities supported by the @ScottishPower Foundation in 2024! 🤩 This funding for our Education Project will help us continue to create a more inclusive, accessible and knowledgeable society on deafblindness. This will allow us to continue shaping a better environment and society for people who are deafblind where no one feels left behind or excluded. We can't wait to share more #SPFoundation #DeafblindUKEducationProject
